What is the “ActorTects"?
At The ActorTects we want actors craft their own artistry from blank pages just as architects design buildings from empty space.
The ActorTects recognises the importance of inclusivity in theatre and acting, particularly in the UK. We intend to increase East Asian visibility and challenge the industry idea of Asian stereotypes by equipping students with all the tools and skills needed to succeed in a competitive western industry.
We’re also developing a sustainable network and platform initially offering group workshops for actors interested in expanding their knowledge of techniques and skills. We aim to be a production company in the future.
Company Objectives
To act as a gateway to the acting industry for UK based East Asian actors by equipping them with the vital skills and confidence needed to break through into the UK industry.
To increase the number of East Asians entering UK drama schools, addressing underrepresentation and allowing access the unique opportunities in the UK.
To explore different western Actor Training methodologies for all and provide an East Asian network and community where actors can share their experiences of acting and theatre, which will promote a cross-cultural collaboration of ideas.
To remove race as a barrier to achievement and nourishing wider opportunities for East Asian actors.
